Stay Busk
In stays, which were worn between the 15th and 18th centuries, the busk (or busque) was intended to keep the front of the torso straight and upright, giving the lady the desired conical shape. It was made of wood, ivory, or bone slipped into a pocket and tied in place with a lace called the busk point. Busks were often carved and decorated, or inscribed with messages, and were popular gifts from men to their sweethearts. Ours are documented reproductions, handmade of unfinished wood and measure approximately 10" long, 2 1/4" wide at the top and 2" wide at the bottom. If you require a different size, please specify. This is a plain busk, without carving. It is usually made of basswood or mahogany, but woods may vary. Shown in Basswood and Mahogany.
